How deep do foundation footings have to go?
Footings need to sit below the frost line on solid bearing soil so freezing ground cannot heave them. In the Dayton area that means excavating to the depth local code requires. We confirm the exact depth for your site and plans before we pour.
Do I need footings, a wall, or a slab foundation?
It depends on what you are building and how it is designed. Additions and garages often use footings with foundation walls, while some structures use a monolithic slab with a thickened, reinforced edge that acts as its own footing. We help you match the foundation type to your project and plans.
Can you pour a foundation for a room addition?
Yes. Additions are a common job for us. We tie the new footings and walls into the existing structure, match the depth and bearing, and coordinate the pour so your framer can pick up right where the concrete leaves off.
How do you keep water out of the foundation?
Water management starts with grading the soil to slope away from the walls and pouring footings that sit on well-drained bearing soil. Depending on the design, foundation walls can also take drainage and waterproofing details. We build so water moves away from the structure instead of collecting against it.
Do you work with our builder or general contractor?
Absolutely. We regularly pour footings and walls as part of a larger build and schedule our work around framing and the other trades. Clear coordination keeps the project on track and the inspections on schedule.
How long does a foundation take before we can build on it?
Forming and pouring footings and walls usually takes a few days depending on size and weather. Concrete keeps gaining strength after the pour, so we will tell you when the foundation is ready for framing and backfill rather than rushing the next stage.
